Volunteer profile: Nancy Tyree

Back in the day, Nancy Tyree recalls, she would escape to Mead Garden at lunch time to relax in nature and rejuvenate before having to go back to work -- and sometimes find herself returning a little late! Retired since 2007, Nancy still comes to the garden regularly to relax, now as a Garden volunteer.

In 2011, Nancy joined MBG’s volunteer team to learn from our horticulturalist and visionary, Randy Knight. She has been part of the greenhouse restoration project and continues to work on both the Legacy Garden and Butterfly Garden. Nancy is known and appreciated for her eye for color combinations, green thumb and cheerful disposition.

Nancy’s strong interest and enthusiasm for gardening comes from her volunteer work in community gardens. She has a background in environmental studies, with a degree from Rollins College. For many years, Nancy worked professionally in land development.

She describes Mead Botanical Garden as the ‘crown jewel’ of Central Florida. Nancy’s love for Mead extends beyond the planted gardens. She regularly makes time to enjoy the nature and wildlife she experiences throughout Mead’s 48 acres.

We give a special “thank you” to Nancy Tyree for her commitment to the gardens and continued support in keeping them beautiful! In 2013, Nancy was recognized as one of our ‘Dream Team’ Volunteers with over 150 hours of dedication. This year, she has kept up her momentum. Nancy, we appreciate you and all your hard work! We love seeing you out there on Tuesdays and Fridays!
