Some Precautionary Measures Have Implemented…

  • Fresh air and hikes…
Much of camp takes place outdoors. The doors at Camp Base are kept wide open throughout the day with fans bringing in lots of fresh air in from the outside.
  • Cleaning, cleaning, and more cleaning…
On-going disinfection efforts and cleaning of camp activity areas, high touched surfaces, materials, tools and supplies with disinfecting solutions will take place throughout the day.
  • Cubbies and water bottles…
Each camper will be given their own cubby in which to store their personal items. Camp staff will refill camp-provided water bottles via pitchers throughout the day to ensure no cross-contamination takes place.

Mead Botanical Garden Young Naturalist Summer Camp

At the Young Naturalist Summer Camp, campers will have fun interacting with nature in the beautiful and unique setting of Mead Botanical Garden. They will make discoveries about wildlife, wetlands, plants, the environment and our ecosystem. And, they will develop a life-long love of nature and the great outdoors. Every day, campers will engage in interesting age-appropriate activities and games while exploring our 48-acre park, creek, woodland trails, and wetland.

With a running creek, hiking trails, tall pine trees, a greenhouse, butterfly garden and large pond that’s home to turtles, fish and wading birds, Mead Botanical garden is true hidden treasure. There’s so much for campers to do, see and experience every day. The spacious “Discovery Barn” serves as the camp base headquarters where arts, crafts, environmental activities, gardening and games take place. Throughout the week, visiting experts and certified naturalists bring mammals, reptiles, insects and interesting plants for campers to learn about and see up close.

Young naturalist campers explore Mead Garden’s unique wildlife habitats, hike the wetlands boardwalk, play games, learn fun survival skills and engage in age-appropriate arts & crafts. Campers learn about environmental awareness, wildlife, plants, birds, butterflies, crawling insects, water conservation and ecology — all in a loving, safely supervised environment. Additional Young Naturalist program highlights include nature walks, creek exploration, safe animal encounters, plant propagation, gardening, science games & experiments, rolling down the hillside, making memories & lasting friendships. Your kids will love the adventure; you will appreciate the learning goals that are linked to school success.

Camp is led by a team of cheerful certified teachers, master naturalists and fun counselors who love kids and love to inspire adventure. Camp curriculum and activities are designed to foster a life-long love of the great outdoors. Connecting children, nature and fun is what it’s all about. To ensure your child has a safe and rewarding summer, all adult camp staff members have been background checked. Camp Team leaders are chosen for their excellence in teaching and love for children, nature and the environment. Each has demonstrated an exceptional ability to inspire enthusiasm for learning.
